Our girl turned FOUR.

She has loved Gabby’s Dollhouse for so long, so when she said that’s what she wanted for her birthday, there was no hesitation. Pink, cats, sparkles — we were all in.

I wanted this party to feel magical for her… but still doable. I’m a mom of three, not a professional event planner. So this ended up being the sweetest mix of DIY projects and easy Amazon finds.

And honestly? It turned out even more special than I imagined.

“Maddie’s Dollhouse” Display (Budget-Friendly & So Special)

One of my favorite (and honestly easiest) decorations we used was my daughter’s actual Gabby’s Dollhouse toy turned into a party centerpiece—and it ended up being one of the most talked-about details of the whole party!

While I was cleaning out the toy room, I had the idea to repurpose her dollhouse instead of buying more decorations—and it turned out SO cute. I simply printed out small photos of my daughter, cut them out and folded a little piece on the bottom and taped them inside the dollhouse to make the little “Maddie’s” stand up. It felt personalized and interactive. The kids were obsessed with it and kept going back to look at all the pictures!

To make it even more special, I added a custom 3D sign that said “Maddie’s Dollhouse” and placed it right on the entry table next to it. It instantly became the focal point when guests walked in.

Not only was this decoration super meaningful, but it was also one of the cheapest and easiest things to put together. If you already have the toy at home, it’s basically a free decoration—and it adds such a personal touch that you just can’t get from store-bought decor.

This is definitely one of those simple ideas that made a BIG impact!

The best part? It was SO inexpensive and took maybe 20–30 minutes to put together. I put it on our entryway table so it was what guests saw when they first walked inside!

Step by Step: How to Make a Personalized Gabby’s Dollhouse Party Decoration

1. Print favorite photos of your child,
2. cut around outline (leave a little space on the bottom to fold so that they stand up). Fold tab to make the image stand,
3. Place inside dollhouse and tape extra tab to the floor of the dollhouse.
4. Add the custom name sign to bring it all together.

The Big Gabby Dollhouse Backdrop (DIY Foam Board)

The biggest statement piece of the party was the giant Gabby Dollhouse backdrop.

This backdrop ended up being the statement piece of the entire party — and it was way easier (and cheaper) than it looks.

What I Used:

Giant foam board from Home Depot, utility knife, teal paint (Gabby’s Dollhouse-inspired sea green), white paint, painter’s tape, printed photos of Gabby’s Dollhouse rooms, hot glue gun, pink cardstock (for roof shingles)

Step 1: Cut the House Shape

I bought a giant foam board from Home Depot and sketched the overall shape of the dollhouse directly onto it — roof peaks and all. Then I carefully cut it out using a utility knife.

Step 2: Paint the Base Color

Next, I painted the entire house that signature Gabby’s Dollhouse teal/sea green color. One full coat did the trick and instantly made it recognizable.

Step 3: Create the Floors

After the paint dried, I used painter’s tape to stencil off horizontal white lines to divide the house into floors (1 through 3). This helped it look more like the real dollhouse layout and added structure.

Step 4: Add the Rooms

I googled images of the different Gabby’s Dollhouse rooms, printed them off, and hot glued them into each section. This was such an easy way to make it look detailed without hand-painting everything.

Step 5: Make the Roof Shingles

For the finishing touch, I cut out pink roof shingles and attached them to the top. That little detail really pulled everything together.

The entire backdrop cost us around $75–$85 total (and even less if you already have basic craft supplies at home). For a huge custom statement piece, I’ll take that over a $300 party backdrop any day.

It wasn’t complicated, just time and a little patience. I wanted her to have something that felt like she was stepping into her favorite show.

And it ended up being the perfect photo spot.

Watching her stand in front of it with her little dress and face paint, waving at everyone like she owned the place — that was everything.

It’s one of those projects that probably took more effort than it needed to… but I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

Because she noticed.

And at four, that’s what matters.

The Balloon Setup

The balloon arch and staircase balloons completely transformed the space.

It looked like a lot work but it wasn’t. It was mostly just sticking to a color palette:

Teal, pink, purple, and white.

Once those were up, everything else just tied together naturally. Balloon arches are super affordable, easy once you’ve done a few, and they really add such a great visual to any party!

DIY Floating Kitty Balloons (No Helium Needed!)

One thing I wish I had added to this party were these adorable floating kitty balloons! They give that whimsical, “floating” look without needing helium (which is a win 🙌).

I actually created a printable version that you can easily make at home using cardstock, tape, and fishing line. They’re lightweight, budget-friendly, and SO cute for photos!

🏡 The Playhouse = The MVP of the Party

One of the biggest hits of the party was our little Kidcraft Playhouse — and it ended up being the easiest “activity” we had.

The kids were completely obsessed. They used it as Gabby’s Dollhouse, a kitty hangout, and a home base to run in and out of while playing.

It kept the younger kids busy for so long without needing structured activities, which made everything feel way more relaxed.

If you’re hosting a party with toddlers or little kids, I highly recommend having something like a playhouse or small outdoor play structure. It gives them a space to play together and burn energy on their own.

The Sweet Table

When it comes to the dessert table, we keep it simple on purpose. I almost always grab a boxed cake mix (because honestly, they taste amazing and save so much time), and then let the decorations do the heavy lifting. A cute themed topper instantly makes it feel custom without the custom bakery price. Sometimes I’ll add cake pops or simple frosted cupcakes to fill out the table, but I don’t overcomplicate it. I’d much rather spend money on the fun decorations that bring the theme to life and keep the actual cake easy, affordable, and stress-free. The goal is a cute party — not a $200 dessert bill.

We kept the dessert table fun but simple. Pink cake pops with sprinkles. A simple cake with a themed topper. Her favorite characters throughout. And the sprinkle table cloth.

Kids don’t need fancy — they just need colorful and sweet.

The Character Favor Boxes

Instead of traditional goodie bags, I made little Gabby character boxes for each of the kids. I wanted something that felt on-theme but also simple — something they would actually use instead of toss aside the next day.

Each box included:

It felt more personal than a plastic bag of random candy, and it tied into the whole “dollhouse” theme in a really cute way. And honestly, I loved seeing them pick their favorite character.

Our One Big Splurge

Our one big splurge for the party was hiring a face painter — and it was completely worth it. Since we live out in the country, we paid around $250 for two hours (which included travel time).

It kept the kids entertained, gave everyone something fun to do, and honestly took pressure off me from planning another activity. Even the adults joined in.

If I’m choosing where to spend money, I’d rather put it toward an experience the kids will remember than an over-the-top dessert table.

That’s why birthdays mean so much to me.

It’s not about having the most elaborate party or the biggest budget. It’s about pausing and saying, “We get another year with you.” Another year of growth. Another year of memories. Another year together.
