Why I Started Running (Long Before the Stroller Days)
I’ve always loved running.
Before I was a mom of three, before nap schedules and snack cups and bikes riding beside me — I was a marathon runner. I ran 10 full marathons, including the unforgettable experience of running the Boston Marathon in 2018.
Running was my reset button. My therapy. My way to prove to myself that I could do hard things.
But then life changed in the best way possible — I became a mom.
And I wasn’t ready to give up the part of me that loved to run.
Learning to Run With a Baby

When I had my first daughter, I knew I wanted to keep running — but I had no idea what that would look like.
So I started small.
Just me and her in a single jogging stroller. Short runs. Slow miles. Lots of stopping. Sometimes I’d get one mile in before she needed something.
But I kept going.
Running looked different, but it still felt like me.
Two Under Two… and a Double Stroller Beast
Then came baby number two.
Two under two.
And suddenly I was pushing a double stroller — which, let’s be honest, is basically strength training on wheels.
It was heavier. Slower. Harder.
But it also made me stronger than I’d ever been.
Those miles taught me patience. They taught me flexibility. They taught me that pace doesn’t define progress.
Some days were chaotic. Some runs ended early. But showing up mattered more than speed.
Now: Three Kids and Still Running

Now we’re a family of five.
Sometimes I run with just the baby in the single stroller.
Sometimes I take two kids while my oldest rides her bike beside me.
It’s loud. It’s unpredictable. It’s not PR-chasing marathon training anymore.
But it’s beautiful.
Running now isn’t about qualifying times or medals — it’s about movement, mental clarity, and showing my kids what consistency looks like.
It’s about keeping a piece of myself while raising them.

After 10 marathons, I never imagined that the hardest part of running would be… leaving the house.

Stroller running isn’t just about fitness — it’s about logistics.
- Someone needs a snack.
- Someone needs to go to the bathroom.
- Someone doesn’t want to sit.
- Someone forgot their water.
- I forgot my water.
If my setup isn’t dialed in, the run doesn’t happen.
Over the years — through single stroller runs, double stroller “beast mode” seasons, and now juggling a baby and a big kid on a bike — I’ve figured out what actually makes it realistic.
Not aspirational.

Here’s exactly what I use to make stroller runs happen consistently — even on chaotic mornings.
After years of marathon training, three pregnancies, and countless stroller miles, I’ve learned that the gear matters — but the small habits matter even more. I’ve added some of my favorite stroller running tips below alongside the products that make them possible.

This is the stroller I’ve used for thousands of miles with my kids. It handles uneven sidewalks and longer runs really well, and I don’t feel like I’m fighting the stroller when I pick up the pace. If you plan on running more than a mile or two regularly, having a solid running stroller makes a huge difference. And the single BoB stroller (I love this one) is THE best!

This is the double stroller I reach for when I’m running with two kids. I’ve logged a lot of miles with it, and what I appreciate most is how stable it feels and how well it handles longer runs. It’s definitely heavier than a single stroller, but once you’re moving, it rolls smoothly and doesn’t feel nearly as intimidating as you’d expect.
If you only run occasionally with two kids, you may not need this. I bounce back and forth between the two different strollers now that my kids are getting older and my oldest can ride her bike! Then I take the younger two in the double or sometimes I just take my son in the single stroller while the girls are at school! So I love having both!

Tip #1: Bring lots of snacks to keep your little one happy for the duration of the run!

Tip #2: Break up the run by running to a park, letting the kids play and then running back! Or run to your local coffee shop for a little treat. Breaking up the run will help toddlers who may get bored. It also acts as a reward for good behavior!

Tip #4: During the holiday seasons like Halloween or Christmas, we run around the neighborhood and look at all the decorations! It’s so much fun and one of the sweetest memories to have with your kiddos!
Tips #5: When you first start running while pushing a stroller, one of the biggest questions is: what do you actually do with your arms? Do you push the whole time with one arm? Do you use both? The answer is that you alternate. I typically push with one arm for about 10–20 strides and then switch sides. Alternating helps keep your body balanced and prevents one side from getting overworked. If I’m trying to pick up the pace or tackle a hill, I’ll use both arms for short stretches to power through, especially when the stroller is fully loaded. It can feel a little awkward at first, but once you find your rhythm, it becomes completely natural.
