If your kids are anything like mine, chances are Wicked has been on repeat! My girls became completely obsessed with the movie. They danced through every song, acted out scene after scene, and couldn’t stop talking about Glinda and Elphaba. Emily proudly declared she wanted to be Elphaba, while Maddie insisted on being Glinda.

Once they picked their characters, the rest of the family costume practically planned itself. My husband became the Scarecrow, I dressed as Dorothy, and our toddler completed the group as the sweetest little Cowardly Lion.
We also knew these years wouldn’t last forever. Before long, our kids will want to choose their own Halloween costumes and head off with friends. So while they’re still excited about dressing up together, we’re soaking up every minute. This Wizard of Oz and Wicked-inspired family costume became one of our favorite Halloween memories.

Meet Our Wizard of Oz & Wicked Family Costume
Our family costume included Dorothy, the Scarecrow, Elphaba, Glinda, and the Cowardly Lion. We mixed characters from The Wizard of Oz and Wicked to create a family costume that was fun, recognizable, and surprisingly easy to put together. Here’s exactly how we created each look!
Dorothy Costume
Dorothy has always been one of my favorite Wizard of Oz characters, so I was excited to bring her classic look to life! I wanted to stay true to the original movie while keeping everything affordable and easy to recreate. I found every piece on Amazon, making this costume simple to put together without sacrificing the iconic details.

What I used:
Scarecrow Costume
My husband was the perfect Scarecrow! We wanted his costume to look classic and recognizable, and Amazon made it so easy to find everything we needed. In fact, we ordered all of our family’s costumes from Amazon, which made planning this family Halloween costume both simple and affordable. Everything arrived quickly, giving us plenty of time to try everything on and make sure it fit before Halloween.

What he wore:
- Scarecrow costume
- Romeo boots (my husband’s favorite boots we already owned)
Elphaba Costume
Emily was absolutely thrilled to become Elphaba! She was actually gifted this adorable costume for her birthday by some sweet family friends, and it happened to be purchased on Amazon. It fit perfectly and looked just like Elphaba’s iconic dress.

To complete the transformation, I ordered some fun green face paint, and Emily loved getting her makeup done before Halloween. We also found an accessory kit on Amazon that included Elphaba’s signature green gloves with long nails and her glasses, which really brought the whole costume to life. She truly looked like she had stepped right out of Wicked!

What We Used:
- Elphaba costume
- Green face paint
- Elphaba accessory kit (green gloves with long nails and glasses)
Glinda Costume
Maddie made the sweetest little Glinda! We ordered her beautiful pink dress on Amazon, along with an accessory kit that included Glinda’s light-up crown and wand. Those little details really completed the look and made her feel like the Good Witch.

For trick-or-treating, we paired her costume with pink tennis shoes instead of dress shoes so she could stay comfortable while walking from house to house. She loved twirling in her dress all night and truly looked like the cutest little Glinda!

What We Used:
- Glinda dress
- Glinda accessory kit (light-up crown and wand)
- Pink tennis shoes
Cowardly Lion Costume
For our one-year-old son, we dressed him up as the sweetest little Cowardly Lion! I wasn’t sure how he’d feel about wearing the lion’s mane, but he was such a trooper and kept it on without any complaints. It made for the cutest photos and completed his little lion look perfectly.

One of my favorite things about this costume was how warm and cozy it kept him. Living in the Pacific Northwest, Halloween evenings can be pretty chilly, so the soft, fleece costume was perfect for keeping him comfortable while we were out trick-or-treating. It was adorable, practical, and the perfect finishing touch to our Wizard of Oz family costume.

What We Used:
- Cowardly Lion costume
- Brown shoes (if applicable)
Halloween Gear That Made Trick-or-Treating with Kids Easier
With three little kids, having the right gear made Halloween so much easier! From school Halloween parties to an evening of trick-or-treating, these were two items we couldn’t have done without.
Kelty Kids Backpack Carrier
We kicked off Halloween by attending the girls’ school Halloween parties. Since our son was only one year old, we brought along our Kelty Kids backpack carrier, and it worked perfectly! He loved riding along while staying comfortable in his Cowardly Lion costume, and it made getting around the school so much easier than pushing a stroller through crowded hallways. It also gave us the freedom to keep up with the girls while keeping our little lion cozy and happy.

BOB Double Jogging Stroller
When it was time to go trick-or-treating that evening, we switched to our BOB Double Jogging Stroller. It was the perfect setup for walking around our friends’ neighborhood. Our four-year-old Glinda could easily hop in and out of the stroller to collect candy, while our little Cowardly Lion happily rode along when his legs got tired. It made the evening so much more enjoyable and kept everyone comfortable until the very last house.

Final Thoughts
Putting together our Wicked and Wizard of Oz family Halloween costumes was one of our favorite Halloween memories. Seeing the girls light up as Elphaba and Glinda, and watching our little Cowardly Lion tag along, made all the planning completely worth it. These are the moments I’ll always cherish.
If your family loves Wicked or The Wizard of Oz, I hope this guide helps inspire your own family Halloween costumes. Whether you recreate our looks exactly or make them your own, the best part is making memories together.
