We decided to remodel our main floor bathroom for one simple reason⊠we had zero storage. No vanity, no cabinets, and somehow everything always ended up cluttered on the floor (mom life, right?). On top of that, the purple-toned wood floors definitely werenât doing us any favors đ
But hereâs where things get a little crazyâwe were also in full prep mode for my daughterâs birthday party (a full-on Wicked-themed celebration), and suddenly this bathroom refresh turned into a full remodel. My husband took on the project, and in true last-minute fashion⊠he finished it literally one hour before the party started đ€Ł
And honestly? It was SO worth it. What used to be an awkward, no-storage space is now one of my favorite rooms in our home. If youâre dealing with a bathroom that just isnât functional (especially with kids), Iâm sharing exactly what we changed, what we used, and how we made it work on a budget.

1. Before: What Wasnât Working
One of the biggest issues we had was the lack of storage. We only had a pedestal sink and a small shelf above the toilet⊠which sounds fine in theory â but in reality, things were constantly falling into the toilet đ€Ł Not exactly ideal. Between that and having zero cabinet space, it quickly became clear we needed a real solution.
- No vanity = no storage
- Clutter everywhere
- Outdated floors
- Not functional for kids

2. Our Goals for the Remodel
- Add a vanity + storage
- Get rid of the purple floors
- Keep it budget-friendly
- Make it functional for a family
- Keep the bathtub (because kids!)

3. The Timeline (aka the chaos đ)
- Started before party prep
- Realized we were cutting it close
- Finished ONE HOUR before guests arrived (in fact the tub fixtures still needed to be added but everything else was done!)

4. What We Changed
- Vanity + sink: We chose this 48â vanity from Home Depot and it completely transformed the space. I love the warm wood tone and the amount of storage it addedâespecially since we had zero vanity storage before. The drawers are soft-close (huge win), and it instantly made the bathroom feel more finished and functional.
- Mirror + lighting
- Flooring: 21 square feet per case
For flooring, we chose Lifeproofâs Navarra Maple vinyl plank from Home Depot, and Iâm so glad we did. Itâs completely waterproof (a must with kids), super durable, and the light neutral tone instantly made the whole space feel bigger and brighter. It also has a click-lock installation, which made it much more manageable for a DIY projectâespecially since we were racing to finish before the party. - Fixtures (faucet, hardware)
- Storage solutions
What We Didnât Change (and Why)
Thankfully, we didnât have to redo everything. The shower had already been updated before we bought our home, and itâs still one of my favorite parts of the space. Skipping that portion of the remodel saved us a ton of moneyâand let us focus on the areas that really needed it (like finally adding storage!).

5. The After (My Favorite Part!)

7. Shop This Bathroom đ

đ§ Tools We Used
If youâre planning a bathroom update like this, having the right tools makes everything so much easierâespecially if youâre on a tight timeline like we were đ Here are some of the tools we used throughout this project:
- Power drill
- Drill bit set
- Measuring tape
- Saw
- Level
- Tool bag
- Step stool / ladder
- And of course, I have to give credit where itâs dueânone of this would have happened without my husband, who somehow managed to pull off this entire remodel (and finish it an hour before the party đ ). Having a husband who can truly do it all definitely didnât hurt!
8. Final Thoughts
Looking back, this project was definitely a little chaoticâbut completely worth it. What started as a simple need for more storage turned into a full bathroom transformation that now feels both functional and beautiful.
As a mom, having a space that actually works for our daily routines makes such a difference, and I love that we were able to create something practical without completely starting from scratch. Skipping the shower renovation saved us time and money, and focusing on the areas that mattered most made this project feel doableâeven on a tight timeline.
And while I may not recommend finishing a remodel just one hour before hosting a party đ itâs a reminder that sometimes things come together exactly when they need to. This space now works so much better for our familyâand it made hosting that special birthday celebration even more meaningful.
If youâre here for the chaos of real-life home projects⊠just wait until you see what we pulled off next đ
Right after finishing this bathroom, we hosted my daughterâs Wicked-themed birthday partyâand it turned out even better than I imagined.
