A Glinda-inspired celebration full of sparkle, bubbles, and the sweetest memories
💖 A Birthday Straight Out of Oz
There are birthday parties… and then there are core memory birthdays. Maddie’s 5th birthday was pure magic from start to finish — a dreamy, pink, Glinda-inspired celebration that felt like it came straight out of Oz.
From the moment guests arrived, they were welcomed into a world of bubbles, sparkles, and soft pink magic. And honestly? It was everything a little girl could dream of.

🎀 The Setup: Our Glinda-Inspired Party Scene
We created the main party backdrop using kraft paper (hello, budget-friendly!) and hand-painted details to bring it to life. The “Maddie is 5” sign with floating pink bubbles and sparkles set the tone for the whole party, complete with a cardboard cut out of our birthday girl!

this is the exact one we used, and it was honestly stunning—especially for how affordable it is! We had two of them up: one outside, pictured here and one right as you walked inside)
I also added little pink bows to this balloon arch with this bow kit I got off Amazon!
The balloon arch? A total showstopper. Layers of pinks, whites, and metallics with bows tied throughout made it feel soft, whimsical, and so Glinda.

To carry the theme throughout the entire house (not just the main party backdrop), we added giant iridescent “bubble” balloons floating in our living room. They caught the light in the prettiest way and gave off that magical, Glinda-in-her-bubble kind of vibe. It made everything feel more immersive and whimsical, like you were stepping into a little world of magic the moment you walked in—and it ended up being one of my favorite details from the whole party ✨

And can we talk about the life-size Maddie cutout?! That might have been my favorite detail — such a fun, personal touch that made the whole setup feel extra special.

🎨 The Hand-Painted Signs (And How You Can Recreate Them!)
One of my favorite details from this party was the backdrop signage — and fun fact: I hand-painted it myself!

I actually have a BFA in art with an emphasis in painting and drawing, so this was such a fun creative outlet for me. I loved being able to customize every little detail to match the vision I had in my head.

BUT — don’t let that intimidate you. You do not need an art degree to get this look.
If you want that hand-painted, custom feel without the stress, here’s my biggest tip:
👉 Use a projector.
You can:
Project your design right onto your paper or backdrop Lightly trace it with a pencil Then go over it with paint or markers
That’s it! It’s so much easier than it sounds, and it gives you that beautiful, hand-done look without needing to freehand everything.
I promise — if I can make it look like this, you can too 💕
👑 A Real-Life Glinda Moment
The absolute highlight of the day? A surprise visit from Glinda herself.

Watching Maddie’s face light up was one of those moments I’ll never forget. The dress, the crown, the sparkle — it all came together in the most magical way.

The kids were completely mesmerized during storytime, and it honestly felt like we stepped into a fairytale for a little while.

🎨 Birthday activities the Kids Loved
We kept the kids busy (and happy!) with a mix of fun activities:
Face painting (the butterfly designs were a huge hit 🦋) Bounce houses — yes, plural 😆 and worth every second Playtime outside with friends running around and just being kids.

It was the perfect balance of structure and free play, which made everything feel easy and fun instead of rushed.

🧁 A Sweet Celebration (That Kept Going All Night!)
Inside, we continued the pink-and-green Wicked theme with a dessert table full of cupcakes and a birthday cake that tied everything together.

The mix of Glinda pink and Elphaba green added the perfect contrast — and let’s be honest, the kids were mostly just excited about the frosting 😄

One of my favorite little wins from this party was the cupcakes — because they looked adorable and saved us a lot of money.
Instead of ordering cupcakes, I made them at home using a box cake mix and store-bought frosting (keeping it simple over here 😄).

To dress them up, I used a piping bag with different metal tips (those frosting tips you put onto the end of a plastic bag!) to create that pretty swirl design on top.
👉 I have zero professional baking skills, but I promise this was way easier than it sounds.
The bright pink frosting tied perfectly into the Glinda theme, and once they were all displayed on the dessert table, they honestly looked bakery-worthy.
And the best part?
We saved so much money doing it this way.
💡 If You Want to Recreate This:
1. Use a box cake mix (Funfetti was a hit!)
2. Grab pre-made frosting to save time
3. Use a piping bag + metal tips (even a basic set works!). You just cut the tip of the bag so that you can fit the metal end into it.
4. Then you load the frosting into the bag (I used a spoon to scoop it and press it towards the tips of the bag. Warning: this will be messy!! But don’t stress about perfection — the swirl hides everything 😆
✨ Real Mom Tip:
If you’re trying to balance a beautiful party with a real-life budget, this is one of the easiest places to save without sacrificing the look at all.
🔥 Ending the Night by the Fire
After all the excitement, we slowed things down and ended the night around the fire pit.

Smokeless fire pit (we LOVE this one)

It was one of those simple, cozy moments — kids playing, parents relaxing, and just soaking in the day. The perfect ending to such a full, happy celebration.

🎁 Maddie’s Favorite Gifts
Maddie received so many sweet and thoughtful gifts—we are so grateful for all of them! These are just a few of the ones she’s been especially excited about and playing with nonstop since her party 💕
💖 A Few of Her Favorites:
Mermaid Cape set — she hasn’t stopped playing with this one 👗

Unicorn Cape Set— perfect for all the princess moments 🎨

Mermaid Light Up Terrarium— such a hit for quiet time and getting creative 🧸

Glinda & Elphaba Care Bear — this one came to bed with her that night 🥹 🪄

Wicked Emerald City Train Toy— so fun to keep the theme going even after the party
Pink Strider Bike with Basket — her aunt, uncle, and cousin got this for her and she was so excited to have a bike of her own! She especially loves that it lights up and that she can carry her dollies in the basket 🥹💕

💡 What I’d Do Differently Next Time
As magical as this day was, there are always a few little things you learn along the way 😅
1. Don’t lose the remote (seriously 🤣)
I put together the sweetest slideshow of Maddie over the last 5 years — all my favorite photos and videos. It was going to be such a special moment… and then right before the party, my 6-year-old lost the remote 🫠
So we never got to play it.
Lesson learned: if you’re planning something like this, keep the remote in a safe spot and maybe supervise TV time beforehand 😂
2. Add a dress code to the invitation
Next time, I would definitely include a note for guests to wear pink or green! I think it would’ve been so fun to see everyone “pick a side” — Team Glinda or Team Elphaba 💖💚
It adds an extra layer of magic (and would look amazing in photos!).
3. Plan for the littler siblings
The bounce houses were a HUGE hit… but the big kids definitely got a little wild at times 😅
If I could do it again, I’d have a smaller bounce house or designated space just for toddlers so parents don’t have to jump in for rescue missions every five minutes.
But honestly?
💭 Final Thoughts
This party was everything I hoped it would be and more. It wasn’t just about decorations or themes — it was about creating a day Maddie will always remember.
Even the little hiccups are part of what made the day feel so real and full of life—and I wouldn’t change that for anything 💕
And if there’s one thing I’ve learned? You don’t need perfection… just a little creativity, a lot of love, and maybe a few extra balloons 💕
At the end of the day, it wasn’t just about the decorations or the theme—it was about creating a space where Maddie and her friends could truly feel the magic. From the moment everyone arrived to the last cozy moments by the fire, it was laughter, sparkle, and memories we’ll never forget. Seeing the joy on her face made every bit of planning worth it. It really was one of those days you wish you could bottle up forever.
