For my little one’s 2nd birthday, I created a soft pastel Disneyland-themed party filled with DIY details, simple decorations, and meaningful touches that made everything feel extra special—without spending a fortune.
From Main Street-inspired popcorn boxes to teacup cupcakes and a pastel balloon-filled room, this party truly felt like stepping into our own little version of Disneyland.

🎟️ Disneyland-Inspired Party Entrance
Set the tone for your party right from the moment guests arrive by creating your own little “Disneyland entrance.”
We hung a pastel “Happy Birthday” banner across the entryway and layered it with our mini balloon garland above for that soft, whimsical Disney feel.

As guests walked up, they were greeted with a small welcome table and a sign that said:
👉 “Grab Your Ears”
We had Mickey and Minnie ears laid out so each guest could pick their own to wear—just like stepping into Disneyland!

Then, as soon as you opened the door, guests were welcomed by a large Disneyland map, just like the ones you grab at the park entrance. It really helped set the scene and made it feel like you were officially stepping inside Disneyland.

From that moment on, the whole party felt like an experience—not just decorations.
💡 Why this works
- Creates a clear transition from “real life” to party mode
- Makes guests feel like they’re entering Disneyland Interactive + memorable for kids right away
- Sets up the theme before they even see the main party space

🎨 A Soft Pastel Disneyland Theme
Instead of traditional bold Disney colors, I went with a soft pastel color palette—pink, lavender, baby blue, and soft yellow.

This made everything feel:
- more modern
- more whimsical
- and honestly… a little more magical ✨
🎈 Mickey Balloon Ceiling (DIY Printable Decor)
One of the biggest statement pieces in this party was the “floating” Mickey balloons—and this was actually a super simple DIY.

Instead of using real balloons, I hand drew Mickey-shaped balloons, cut them out, and attached them to fishing line. Then I strung the fishing line across the room, which created the illusion that the balloons were floating in the air.

To make them look even more realistic, I added small pieces of string to the back of each balloon to act as the tails. This little detail made such a big difference and really brought them to life!
It ended up being:
- lightweight
- inexpensive
- and honestly easier than dealing with real balloons

Plus, it photographed SO well and completely transformed the space. Everyone couldn’t believe I made these by hand!
Because I loved how it turned out so much, I turned this into a printable you can use for your own party 👇

🛠 Supplies I Used for This DIY
If you want to recreate this look, here are the simple supplies I used:
- Clear fishing line (this is what creates the “floating” look)
- Glue dots or tape for attaching the balloons
- Cardstock paper (for a sturdier feel)
- Scissors
- White string
☕ Mad Tea Party Cupcakes
☕ Mad Tea Party Cupcakes
These were a HUGE hit.
I used pastel teacup holders to turn cupcakes into a Mad Tea Party-inspired dessert, and they instantly elevated the whole table.
I actually used a digital download for the teacup wrappers, then printed, cut, and assembled them myself—and they were so easy to put together.

They turned out SO cute, and honestly, everyone was raving about them!
Once I’m able to, I’ll link the exact ones I used because they were such a fun and unique detail that made the whole setup feel extra special. This was my favorite detail!

🎡 Ferris Wheel Cupcake Display
The cupcake Ferris wheel was one of the biggest focal points on the dessert table.
It added height, movement, and that classic Disneyland feel.

This is one of those items that:
- looks impressive
- but does most of the decorating work for you
🎂 Simple Cake + Carousel Topper
I kept the cake simple and did a box cake and then added a carousel topper to dress it up and tie everything together.
Sometimes simple is better—especially when the rest of the table is already full of details.

🍿 Main Street Popcorn Bar
I made custom Main Street-style popcorn boxes and filled them with bagged popcorn for easy grab-and-go snacks.

These doubled as:
- decor
- food
- and favors
Which is always a win 🙌

🏰 A Special Touch: Our Disneyland Memory Wall
One of my favorite details from the party was our Disneyland memory wall filled with photos from our past trips.
We printed out some of our favorite moments—from rides and character meet-and-greets to castle photos—and displayed them together to create a space that felt really personal and meaningful.
Right in the center, we included a photo of the iconic Disneyland quote:
“Here you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow and fantasy.”
This quote comes from the Disneyland dedication plaque by Walt Disney, which is placed above the entrance to Disneyland as you walk into the park.

Including it in our display felt extra special because it represents that magical feeling of stepping into a different world—something we wanted to recreate for our daughter’s birthday.
It tied everything together and made the party feel less like decorations and more like reliving our favorite family memories.
🪧 Disneyland Signpost (DIY FAVORITE)
This might be one of the cutest DIYs.
We made a Disneyland-style signpost pointing to:
- Fantasyland
- Main Street
- Mad Tea Party
- and more
It added such a fun, interactive element and made everything feel themed without being complicated.

🎁 Party Favors (THIS IS GOLD CONTENT)
Instead of typical party favors, we did something different:
We gave each child a Disney Little Golden Book wrapped with:
- twine
- a custom thank-you tag

This was:
- affordable
- meaningful
- and something kids will actually use
WAY better than plastic toys.

🎡 Backyard “Park” Setup for the Kids
To keep the Disneyland magic going, we turned our backyard into a fun play area for the kids!
We had a bounce house set up (which was definitely a highlight of the party 🙌) along with a smaller play area for younger kids. It gave everyone space to run around, play, and burn off energy while still feeling like part of the “park.”
It ended up being the perfect balance — themed fun inside and active play outside — and the kids LOVED it.

🍬 The Small Details That Made It Magical
Honestly, it was the little things that made the biggest difference:
- Pastel color consistency
- Mickey details everywhere
- Themed food presentation
- Personalized touches
- Mixing DIY with a few standout pieces

That’s what made it feel like a full experience—not just a party.

If you really want to take your Disneyland party to the next level, these extra details made a huge difference…
🎢 Bringing Disneyland to Life with Ride Posters + Scents
To make the party feel even more like Disneyland, we added vintage-style ride posters all around the house.

We hung prints from different lands—like Fantasyland, Adventureland, and Tomorrowland—which helped each space feel like its own little part of the park. It was such a simple way to fill empty walls and really bring the theme to life.

But one of my favorite details (and maybe the most extra thing I did 😂) was adding Disneyland-inspired scents throughout the house.

If you’ve ever been to Disneyland, you know how certain rides and areas have their own distinct smells—and that’s actually intentional. Disney uses scent as part of their storytelling to make everything feel more immersive and memorable.
So of course… I had to try it 😆
We used different scents around the party to recreate that same feeling, and it honestly made such a difference. It’s one of those little details people might not immediately notice—but it makes the whole experience feel more magical.
✨ Make it feel extra real
If you want to take your party to the next level:
- Add ride posters to represent different “lands”
- Use scents to create a more immersive experience
- Combine visuals + smells for that true “Disney” feeling
Disneyland scents
- “Main street “scent
- Pirates of the Carribean “Pirates water” scent
- “Soarin Over California Orange Groves” scent
- “Soarin Over Fiji” scent
💡 Tips for Throwing a Disneyland Party at Home
- Stick to one color palette (pastels made everything cohesive)
- Pick 1–2 “wow” elements (paper balloons + cupcakes for me)
- Use food as decor
- DIY where it matters most
- Add personal touches (like photos!)

💖 Final Thoughts
This Disneyland-themed birthday ended up being one of my favorite parties we’ve ever done.
It was magical, personal, and honestly way easier to pull together than it looks.
This party ended up meaning more to me than I ever expected.
Just a few weeks before, I had experienced a miscarriage, and I was in a really hard place. Planning this party gave me something to pour my energy into—a way to keep creating, keep moving, and most importantly, celebrate my daughter.
What started as decorations and planning turned into something really special. It brought joy back into our home during a time when I needed it most.
And honestly, it ended up being one of my favorite parties we’ve ever done.
If you’re in a hard season, I hope this reminds you that it’s okay to still find joy in celebrating the people you love.
If you’re planning your own Disneyland party, I hope this gives you tons of inspiration—and shows you that you don’t need to spend a ton to make something really special.
